LHMU Tasmania issues cricket auction challenge: “dig deep” for tsunami victims19 January 2005The Tasmanian LHMU has challenged the islands employers and other unions to dig deep for the victims of the Indian Ocean Tsunamis by launching a silent auction for a valuable piece of cricket memorabilia. An Australian Flag, signed by 8 members of the all-conquering Australian cricket team (including Captain Ricky Ponting and Vice Captain Adam Gillchrist), will be auctioned until the end of the month. The money raised by the auction will be donated to the Union Aid Abroad - APHEDA Tsunami appeal to support work being undertaken to relieve distress caused by the Tsunamis. "This is an opportunity to support relief and reconstruction work and pick up a valuable piece of memorabilia at the same time," LHMU Tasmania Branch Secretary David O'Byrne said today. " We call upon employers - be they large or small - and other Tasmania unions, to make a bid, " he said. Bidding started " The LHMU has started the bidding at $500. The LHMU secured the signed flag through the cooperation of Australian all rounder Darren Lehmann. E-mail bids The winning bid will be announced at the end of the month.
