Women's Literacy and Civic Education
Almost two thirds of adult women in East Timor have never attended any kind of school, and for those who have, it is often just for a year or two. A high proportion of older East Timorese women (and men) are illiterate, and if they are to participate in the reconstruction, and share in the development of East Timor, literacy and language training is essential.
Groupo Feto Foinsae Timor Loro Sa'e (GFFTL) is an organisation of women students from the University of East Timor who conduct literacy training and civic education for the most disadvantaged in Dili and 13 rural districts of East Timor.
Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA, with TAFE support, has been providing assistance with equipment and resources, the development of curriculum, literacy training skills, some wages, transport costs and other related expenses associated with running this literacy training.
