Other programmes Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA has been involved with include a reforestation programme and a mangrove rehabilitation programme in Cambodia. In the past, mangrove trees were removed for fire wood. Replacement of the mangroves assists minimise erosion of the river banks and mud flats where the mangroves grow.
Mangrove areas also provide a habitat for fish to live, thus there was potential for an increase in fish population. Thus this programme had several positive outcomes for the environment.
Union Aid Abroad-APHEDA is involved in a wide range of activities and projects which promoted sustainable human development and self reliance of communities. Whilst development impacts upon the environment, application of an environmental policy assists in reducing a communities negative impacts upon their environment. This further assists in these communities becoming self reliant now and in the future, preserving the environment and livelihoods for generations to come.
