Aceh: Success stories, but more to be done

There are many great stories of small things that have made a big difference for the people. For example, in Kampung Baru, APHEDA in partnership with the PCC, is supporting a women's group comprised of fifteen women.

The group members have been given eight sewing machines and work is shared amongst them - with some doing machining and others hand-stitching. The women are making colourful ceremonial Acehnese umbrellas. It takes three women a day to make one umbrella. They earn IDR20,000 net profit from the sale of each umbrella which is sufficient to buy five kgs of rice to feed a family for five days.
While much has been achieved by the Achenese people in rebuilding their lives, assisted by international aid agencies and some governments, much more still remains to be done. It will take time and commitment. With the continuous generosity of supporters, the Achenese people can once
