Ongoing support for the Lao Women’s Union (LWU)
In February 2006 Union Aid Abroad – APHEDA’s government (AusAID) funded project Training for Employment and Capacity Building 2001-2006 in Lao People’s Democratic Republic came to an end. Building on the successful results achieved through the 4 year AusAID funded project, Union Aid Abroad will continue to support the vocational training of Lao women through the Lao Women’s Union.

Five courses will be conducted, in the first part of 2006, in hairdressing, tailoring and food processing/cooking, training 75 women. Overall 44 trainers will benefit from the opportunity to upgrade their skills through training courses in massage, food processing, weaving, hairdressing and tailoring.
As part of APHEDA's sustainability strategy for the LWU, a donors meeting is being organised to build alternative funding sources for the 3 LWU centres who have been working in partnership with APHEDA.
