HIV training in Laos
|
Workplace volunteers have been trained in HIV/AIDs and STD'S who then pass on this information to at least 5 co-workers. In addition there are provincial mobile training teams who directly train workers in their workplace. So far a total of 1,892 workers have been trained.
Working with UNICEF, fifteen LFTU trainers are increasing their knowledge and skills in adult teaching and learning methodologies as well as HIV/AIDs.
During August and September 2006, the Lao Federation of Trade Union's HIV team also visited the dam construction sites to gather data on HIV knowledge and statistics. Despite the presence of "beer girls" in most construction sites, almost all workers had no knowledge of HIV and did not use condoms. The LFTU's HIV team ran a train the trainers course for 13 provincial trainers from 30th October to 3rd November.
